L'Oréal Double Extend Tubing Mascara Review: Why I’ve Used It for Nearly 20 Years
I've tried other mascaras over the years, but I always come back to this one. Eventually, I decided to stop looking.
There are very few beauty products I can say I've used for nearly 20 years.
L'Oréal Paris Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara is one of them.
Over the years, I've tried other mascaras.
Some were more expensive. Some were newer. Some promised more volume or dramatic lashes.
And somehow, I always came back to this one.
Eventually, I decided:
My Problem Wasn't Length. It Was Panda Eyes.
When I was younger, I didn't have a natural double-eyelid crease.
And I had one frustrating problem with mascara.
Almost every mascara eventually ended up underneath my eyes.
I could carefully do my makeup in the morning, leave the house looking perfectly fine, and then check a mirror several hours later.

For the first time, I could wear mascara without constantly worrying about black smudges appearing underneath my eyes.

The problem?
It was relatively expensive.
And because mascara is something that needs to be replaced regularly, I started wondering if I could find a more affordable product that gave me the same kind of result.

My L'Oréal Double Extend Tubing Mascara Review: What Makes It Different?
The reason this mascara works so well for me is the tubing technology.
Instead of behaving like a traditional mascara that simply coats the lashes with pigment, tubing mascara forms tiny tube-like coverings around individual lashes.
L'Oréal Double Extend is also a two-step product.
Step 1: Apply the white base coat. Step 2: Follow with the black tubing mascara.
The result on my lashes is length and definition without the under-eye smudging that used to drive me crazy.
For me, though, the important part isn't the marketing description.

There are many beauty products I enjoy using.
There are far fewer that I feel confident enough about to buy for someone else.

My Eyes Changed in My 50s—But My Mascara Didn't
Something interesting happened to my eyes as I got older.
For most of my younger life, I didn't have double eyelids.
But sometime after my 50s, as the skin around my eyelids became thinner and changed with age, a natural crease gradually appeared.
So now...
I have double eyelids. 😊
My eyes changed.
My mascara didn't.
And interestingly, mascara has become even more important to my makeup as I've gotten older.
Why Mascara Matters More to Me After 60
I don't wear extremely heavy eye makeup.
But I've noticed that the difference between my eyes with mascara and without mascara has become surprisingly noticeable.

One of My Favorite Things: How It Comes Off
This is another reason I've stayed with tubing mascara.
At the end of the day, I don't need to aggressively rub my eyes trying to dissolve layers of waterproof mascara.
L'Oréal instructs users to wet the lashes with warm water and gently remove the tubes from the lashes.
The first time you use tubing mascara, the removal can look a little strange.
You may see tiny black tube-like pieces coming away from your lashes.
Don't panic.
Your eyelashes aren't falling out. 😂
That's the mascara tubing coming off.
After using this type of mascara for so long, I actually prefer it.
What I Like—and What You Should Know
What I love
No panda eyes—for me. This is the reason I started using it and the reason I stayed.
The tubing formula. I much prefer the way it wears on my eyes compared with many traditional mascaras I've tried.
Easy warm-water removal. I don't need to scrub heavily around my eyes.
Affordable. This was originally why I searched for an alternative to the more expensive Japanese mascara I had been using.
I've tested it for nearly 20 years. That's more meaningful to me than a product I've used three times for a review.
What I don't love
It's a two-step mascara. If you want to swipe on mascara in five seconds and run out the door, the primer step adds a little extra time.
The white primer needs to be covered properly. You need enough black mascara over it so no white remains visible.
It may not be everyone's ideal mascara. Someone looking primarily for extremely dramatic volume may prefer something else.
And most importantly:

Eye shape, lashes, skin and makeup habits differ from person to person.
I can only tell you why it has worked exceptionally well for me.
Would I Buy It Again?
This may be the easiest “Would I Buy It Again?” I've ever written.
Yes.
I've already bought it again.
And again.
And again.
For almost 20 years. 😂
I don't know how many tubes I've gone through by now.
And unless L'Oréal changes the product in a way that no longer works for me, I have no particular desire to search for another mascara.
I've already done enough searching.

Beauty trends come and go.
New mascaras launch constantly.
Some become viral on social media and disappear a few years later.
But every once in a while, you find a product that simply works for you.
L'Oréal Double Extend Beauty Tubes Mascara is that product for me.
It solved the panda-eye problem I struggled with when I was younger.
It has stayed in my makeup bag as my eyes have changed with age.
I still use it in my 60s.
And I still bring it to Korea for friends.
